Introduction: In the field of transport and communication system, river route is also an important means like land division. The main and only river of this upazila is the river Teesta. The second and another branch is the small river Manas. Both the rivers have left an impression of happiness and sorrow in the social life of the people of Kaunia.
Teesta River: This Teesta river plays a very important role for the people of Kaunia. Originating from the Himalayas in the hilly region of Sikkim, the river Teesta flows through Darjeeling, Jalpaiguri and Kochbihar in India and enters Bangladesh about a kilometer from the village of Chhatnai in Dimla police station in Nilphamari district. Then it entered Kaunia upazila through Gangachara upazila of Rangpur district. Adjacent to the Haragachh area of the upazila, it crosses the Teesta railway bridge further east and joins the Brakshapu river directly through the district of Gaibandha to the south-east. The merchant boat is moving, it is still moving.
Manas River: Although the main river of Kaunia Upazila is Teesta, Manas is the only tributary of the people of Kaunia. The whole of Gangachara Upazila, Rangpur Sadar and Kaunia Upazilas flowed through different unions. Its length is about 6 km. It is also known as Mara Manas river in some places.
